Bryan Ripley Crandall, who comes to Fairfield as a teacher, researcher, and doctoral candidate at Syracuse University, will become Director of CWP Fairfield later this year. On his website, Bryan states “my primary interests are the teaching of adolescent literature, coaching secondary school writing, working with students who are traditionally alienated by American education, using creative writing for critical thinking, 21st Century literacies, and creating district-wide writing plans.” At our celebration, via his website, we plan to have Bryan share a few of his ideas that are immediately applicable in the classroom.

Lynn Winslow has scored a professional development coup! Kelly Gallagher, a California high school teacher and noted author, will be on campus during the 2011 Summer Institute on July 15th to work with Young Writers, Summer Institute participants, and TC’s! His publications, such as the latest, Readicide, hone in on the challenges teachers face and provide invaluable ideas on how to engage students with reading and writing. During our May celebration, you will meet Kelly via a selection from one of his DVD’s, that will not only give you inspiration for your classes the next day but also wet your appetite for attending his presentation in July.
